I was interviewed by James Iles of NamePros to discuss my acquisition of the domain Due.com for $130,000. I bought it on Flippa.com last year, and turned it into a go-to hub for invoicing and time tracking. In just nine months, 78,000 users signed up and we haven’t slowed down since. It’s part of my overall entrepreneurial career, which I began after a work accident in 2006 put me out of work for one year. That year was spent learning about online marketing and was the basis for buying, growing, starting, and selling businesses.

I was simply browsing through Flippa when I noticed the domain up for grabs. I was willing to pay as much as $150,000 for the site after reviewing its history, but I always tell entrepreneurs it’s more important what you’re willing to pay than what the domain is worth at the time. I knew I could grow it to an impressive worth quickly.

I’ve also owned Organize.com, buttercup.com, drowned.com, and others. I prefer short, one word, and easy to remember domain names. Of course, that’s what everyone wants. However, it’s an investment that you can liquidate quickly because of that demand, too.
